Many countries have ratified the Convention of the Rights of the Child and are obliged to take these rights into agenda when planning and implementing child policy. In many countries this convention is related also in child welfare act and other legislation concerning children and families.
Social work is in key role in promoting children’s rights. Child welfare and child protection practices have important role in preventing risks and promoting well-being of children. Social work with children and families are done in different contexts and organizations in European countries. Children and families are not equal in the rights. There are different challenges in promoting rights among different population groups for example Roma people and their children or other ethnic backrounds. This special number of web-journal focus on challenges in promoting children’s rights, in preventing and alleviating risks and in developing social work with children and families.
