Editorial: ERIS web Journal 2/2012

This issue of ERIS web Journal, distinct from the previous issues, was ‘open’ for authors who were interested to discussed different aspects of social work across the Europe.

Four articles and two books reviews for the current issue was chosen:

  • Peter Erath (the Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt) is highlighting the importance of the concept of evidence-based practice. He discusses if this concept, well known to social work scientists and practitioners in the Nordic states and in England, can be the key concept for Social Work Science and Practice across Europe.
  • Marie Špiláčková (Department of Social Work, University of Ostrava) examines historical research in social work as one of the method to describe start, beginning and current state of social work. The author concentrates on historiography as well as shows the practical examples of the above mentioned type of research.
  • Štěpán Ripka (Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague) focuses, based on presents previous (some of them are not-so-known) and original findings (from 2010), on Roma children, overrepresented in the institutional care, in the Czech Republic.
  • Raija Väisänen and Juha Hämäläinen (University of Kuopio/University of Eastern Finland, Finland) Adult social work in municipal social welfare offices in Finland.
  • Stefan Borrmann (Hochschule Landshut)- recommends written by Ralph-Christian Amthor book about the history of social work education in Germany: Einführung in die Berufsgeschichte der Sozialen Arbeit. Beltz Juventa (2012).
  • Alice Gojová (Department of Social Work, University of Ostrava) – recommends book Community development. A critical approach from M. Ledwith (2011).
